What are Instagram Reels?
Instagram’s Reels mode was released in 2020, following the lead of TikTok, a popular short-video platform.
Reels are short, 15-second videos that have sound effects or background music. This is exactly what users do on TikTok. Instagram Reels has a large music collection, including many top hits by established artists.
It was popular because of its high engagement with the audience, especially after TikTok banned in certain countries. It was the ideal replacement for TikTok creators.
However, we felt that the reels were missing detailed engagement data. Creators didn’t have any way to know which content was performing well and vice versa. With the introduction of Instagram’s New Reels, and IG Live Insights it will fill in the gap.

Instagram also introduced the “Ads” section in Instagram Reels. This is an important move by Instagram, and businesses can make the most of it. These new Instagram Reels Ads are now available worldwide.
These are some tips to help you understand how it works.
- Between the Reels, ads up to 30 seconds long will be looped.
- Just like the Stories section, the ads will be vertical and take up the whole screen.
- These ads can be viewed, liked, commented on, shared, saved, and shared by the public.
- The words “sponsored” will be used below the account name of the advertiser to identify the ads.
