    Four-Step Process to Help Your Organization Reach Its SMART Goals

    It is important to know your baseline marketing and revenue metrics to determine the growth required for each area of your sales and marketing program. You can make sure that your goals are achievable and realistic by analyzing your sales and marketing data. These goals are known as SMART goals. They stand for Specific, Measurable. Attainable. Relevant. And Time-bound. This 4-part process will help set your initial goals for inbound marketing campaigns. This process will align your larger marketing goal with smaller metrics that all work together to achieve your overall goal.

    A measurable goal allows you to realize when this goal is complete. It’s a marker that allows you to know when to celebrate that win. It’s not enough to just say “to grow my business.”

    You need to pare it down to the core and determine what that growth looks like. Is it to grow by 2.5% in the first quarter or hire three new sales employees to cover a new territory? Or maybe it’s closing ten new accounts in the real estate, oil and gas, or medical industries. Without a set measure, you will lose sight of what you’re working for.

    Attainable

    Creating an attainable goal requires balance. The goal needs to be challenging enough that it’s not too easy to achieve but also not too hard that there is no way to meet that goal’s expectation. While some believe there is nothing wrong with shooting for the stars with an overly ambitious goal, it’s important to evaluate who will be tasked with attaining that goal and how you expect them to achieve it. For example, if the C-suite of your business develops a goal for its sales team to bring in $36 million in sales over the next four months. Without a clear plan of action or a set of helpful tools for your employees to meet these robust goals, you’ll have a demoralized, resentful workforce.

    1. Begin with your goal revenue number. Revenue is the ultimate goal of all marketing programs. To determine which key metrics will be included in your primary revenue goal, you must first look backward.
    2. Calculate your lead-to-customer conversion rate. It is the average conversion rate at which a prospect becomes your customer.
    3. Determine how many leads you will need to generate to achieve your customer goal. This is based on your lead to customer conversion ratio. You can then determine how many contacts you must add to your database to convert to customers.
    4. Learn about your visitor-to-lead conversion rates. It is the number of people who visit your website and provide their contact information.

    It is important to begin with the end in mind and then work backward. Your most important number should always be your priority. All the other integrated strategies in your marketing program will assist you in reaching that goal. This is how your numeric goals might look and how to turn them into actionable metrics. It is important to have both a conservative goal and an optimistic goal to use a variety of metrics to measure each goal.

    Next, you will need to identify additional micro metrics that align with your SMART goals. These marketing strategies could include any of the following:

    • Monthly Social Posts
    • Monthly Number of Blog Posts
    • Each month, the number of email campaigns to your database
    • Monthly Number of Downloadable Content Pieces

    There are no limits to the number of goals you can set. However, make sure that they all match your SMART goals so that you’re focusing on the right priorities to achieve your business and marketing objectives. You may not have all the information you need at once, but it will be easier to track your progress as you go. You will be able to identify your SMART goals for each campaign by tracking your progress over time. This will help you make your marketing plan and strategy more effective.

    Are you worried about whether your business provides customer service via social networking? Social media was once rumored as the next big thing in customer service. Experts predicted that traditional phone-based customer support would soon be gone. They were filled with advice on how to handle customer care via Twitter.

    They spoke too soon, according to a recent survey. According to the survey, social media-based customer service is declining. The number of customers who used social media to provide customer service increased by more than 80% between 2011 and 2013, but it fell by less than 1% from 2013 to 2015. In 2015, more than 4 out of 10 attempts to reach customer service via social media were abandoned. This is a higher abandonment rate for customer service than any other method.

    What is the Cause of the Decline in Social Customer Care Services?

    Customers now realize that social networking, at least in its current form, is not suitable for customer service. 32% of customers who have stopped using social media to provide customer service feel its functionality is too limited, 30% say it doesn’t work for complicated issues, and 33% say it takes too much time.

    What are they expecting from social media if it isn’t meeting their customer service expectations? These are the top customer expectations and what you can do to meet them:

    • They want: To resolve their problem immediately. This is the most important aspect of good customer service. Deliver by Having a high-quality phone service that quickly queues, routes, and transfers customer calls. A call center is a great way to ensure that your customer service department has enough staff, especially during busy seasons. Monitoring reps’ responses and results are important. Respond as fast as possible to customers who reach out via social media and contact your support team.
    • Desire: Not to have to repeat information or follow up on steps. Customers feel that the information provided on their first call or the first step of the telephone tree should be shared with the customer service representatives who they contact later. Deliver by: Collecting customer data. Reps can access customer data via a cloud-based customer support database. They can also record steps taken and gather information about customers. This allows reps to retrieve customer information from the cloud, and customers do not have to repeat their steps.
    • Customer Desire: Knowledgeable customer service representatives. Customers expect reps to understand their customers and offer solutions. Deliver by training your reps about customer service and procedures. But also about your business philosophy, products, and services. This will allow them to deliver the right solution and attitude.

    Social media is not the best channel to handle customer service for small businesses. It’s best to discourage customers from asking questions on social media. Your phone number, customer support email and chat tool should be prominently displayed on your website’s homepage.

    You will still need to keep an eye on social media, which you should do anyway, to spot any potential complaints. If you find any issues, you should immediately contact the customer and request their contact information so that you can address them offline and quickly.

    Social Media Marketing Tips For Absolute Beginners (And Tips From Experts)

    Are your social media posts getting a lot of clicks, shares, comments and likes? Are they driving a lot of traffic to your blog?

    Perhaps not…

    You might not get enough social media interactions or referral traffic. Perhaps your posts are completely ignored.

    You want your social media efforts to result in a paying customer. However, you must channel this social traffic through your funnel.

    Tip 1. Learn how to create a great Facebook post

    Although this may sound simple, many people can’t create engaging Facebook posts. A perfect Facebook post, Buffer calls it, is:

    • A link
    • Keep it short, no more than 40 characters if you have the time
    • Gets published at non-peak hours
    • Follows other posts regularly
    • Current and relevant

    You can see that Facebook posts that connect require thought and effort.

    You’ll see more shares, likes and clicks if you do the work.

    This can be avoided by sharing a new stream of stories from your blog and other related blogs.

    To create such a flow of new ideas:

    • List of websites in your niche that provides great content
    • Follow them on Facebook
    • Share their content with your followers. Who knows, they might even start sharing some of it?

    Your Facebook fans will appreciate you more for sharing engaging, useful stories from the top sources.

    Although sourcing stories can seem like a lot of work, many resources can help. To curate stories that interest you, you can use DrumUp. DrumUp uses keywords to help you find stories that you want to share.

    But:

    These tools rely on algorithms to find articles and may not always be accurate. It would be best if you moderated stories curated using such tools. Although many stories are relevant, it is possible to suggest some more.

    Tip 2. Fix your page

    People make a rookie error regarding Facebook marketing by not properly setting up their Facebook pages.

    A Facebook business page is just like your homepage. Don’t forget to add content. It can be used to encourage others to follow you.

    You’ll first need to have:

    • The cover photo and profile picture are great.
    • A call-to-action
    • An engaging section
    • Pin it

    These should be in place if you don’t already have them.

    Tip 3. Test. Test. Test.

    It is important to conduct tests to optimize your Facebook marketing results.

    No, I am not asking you to spend a lot of money on tools.

    Test each ingredient in your post.

    You could, for example, experiment with the copy of your post and its tone and timing.

    Facebook Insights provides data such as Page Views, Page Likes, Post Reach, etc. These metrics can be used to measure the success of your testing.

    Tip 4. Learn how to create a great tweet

    Twitter success is dependent on how well your tweet is. This means how often you tweet, how many times you tweet and when you post your tweet.

    Simple tweets are easy to create.

    HubSpot identifies the following as the best template for tweeting in its post with 12 Twitter templates.

    This is pretty obvious. You might also want to consider the following:

    • Remember to reduce the URL length before you share – it will save you many characters. Use a tool such as Bitly.
    • You can use 2 hashtags instead 1; be sure to choose your hashtags carefully.

    After you have learned how to write a tweet, it’s time to start retweeting.

    There is no standard template for tweets that are retweeted. However, there are simple tweaks you could make.

    Tip #5. Use the correct hashtags

    Consider hashtags social media keywords.

    Tweets that include hashtags receive 2X the engagement of tweets without hashtags.

    Use hashtags in your tweets. However, don’t use too many hashtags. According to the same research, 17% of tweets with more than two hashtags are less engaging. Stick to two hashtags per tweet.

    However, this leaves us wondering how to find the right hashtags for a tweet or other social media platform. Ben Teo has created a great guide to identifying the correct hashtags. He suggests the following:

    1. Identify Influencers’ Hashtags
    2. To identify related hashtags, use a starter list of hashtags
    3. Assess the relevancy of your Hashtags

    Tip #6. Create a memorable Twitter bio

    As I mentioned before, Twitter is a great way to connect with influencers. When they notice you retweeting or engaging with them, their first impression of your Twitter profile will be that. Your profile will be the first thing your potential followers see before they decide to follow you.

    Make your Twitter profile amazing!

    Facebook requires two images, a cover and a profile photo.

    After the images, your author bio is the next thing to do on your Twitter profile.

    Tip #7 Use lots of hashtags

    Unlike Twitter, you don’t need to limit the number of hashtags you use in a post to 2.

    Research has shown that hashtags are more popular the more you use them. Max Woolf, a Software QA Engineer, found this:

    “Instagram photos that have at least 30 #tags get three times the number of Likes than photos with just a few tags.”

    It’s understandable if you are hesitant about using too many hashtags. You could try anything from 5-10 hashtags.

    For the best hashtag searching, refer to the Twitter hashtag search. Most hashtag discovery tools and tactics work for all social media platforms.

    Tip #8. Create a branding guide (or post consistent images)

    Instagram allows you to express your brand’s personality through your posts. Make sure you are consistent in your messages.

    Ariel Rule, an Instagram expert, has shared some great tips on creating a useful image guide for Instagram in this actionable. You can check it out and create a similar system on your blog.

    A tool can be used to connect with influencers within your niche.

    Tip #9. Even if you run a B2B business, don’t strike out Instagram

    Boeing and UBS are two of the most popular B2B brands on Instagram.

    Many B2B companies have abandoned Instagram. Many B2B companies don’t believe Instagram is useful enough for them. Margot da Cunha from WordStream makes a strong case for B2B companies getting on Instagram.

    Tip #10. Learn how to create great pin descriptions

    Pinterest is a visual medium. However, you can add text descriptions to your pins to make them searchable.

    Positive descriptions help people visualize what they could do with the Pin and provide additional information.

    You can write a keyword-rich description of your pins or pinboards. Take the time to research and use keywords that people might use when searching for your content on Pinterest.

    Individuals and businesses can find it difficult to get started with social media. It takes time to master social media, and there is a learning curve. These are the top dos and Don’ts to help you save time and grow your social media authority faster.

    Start small

    Start small and only try one or two services at a given time. Many newbies join every social network available and attempt to grow each one. You’d be surprised at how long they last. It cannot be easy to create profiles on multiple social media sites. Therefore, it is best only to tackle a few at a time.

    After you have found the best ones for your brand or you, you can start to narrow down your focus. Eventually, you may want to expand your social media strategy and include additional services. However, it would help if you crawled before you could walk.

    As your confidence grows, start small and expand to other social media networks. Success breeds success.

    Buy a widget

    A widget can be placed on your website to promote your social networks. Your blog is the best place to get followers. It’s easier to get your friends and readers to vote for your content than get strangers to do the same. A widget can be added to your content.

    Facebook offers a widget-maker that you can use. The Twitter meme badge can also be added to your website.

    Test your widgets and buttons often.

    Start testing which social media profiles have the greatest impact. Then, drop the rest. If your site is doing well on Facebook but not getting voted on Digg often, you can remove the Digg vote button.

    Sites often have a lot of buttons and widgets. A gazillion widget placed at each article’s end creates noise and annoys readers. Find out which buttons get clicked and remove those that don’t convert. You will only need two to three widgets per page in the ideal world.

    Google Analytics can help you determine which buttons are most effective. Goals will also allow you to see who is clicking what. To see which type of buttons gets more clicks, you can also use A/B.

    Your followers shouldn’t be annoyed.

    It sounds like common sense, right. Many companies just getting started with social media believe that the best way to promote their brand is to post coupons, offers, and any other relevant information.

    Rule of thumb: Avoid it if it is something that you don’t want to receive.

    Your social media goal should be helpful first. Brands that are helpful and not self-promotional shills will be admired and followed by people. Ask first.

    Post useful links to industry articles, answer queries and engage. If you are helpful, you will get more followers and engagement.

    Do not worry about the following counts.

    Do not believe the spammy ebooks that claim you can get thousands of followers in just a few days. It’s possible to do this, and it’s not difficult. Most of the followers you’ll have are bots. They may be following you to see if you will follow them back. They are not followers that would engage with your ideas.

    Social media followers should listen to you and engage with you. Ten followers are more valuable than 1000 bots.

    Organically building a strong social media presence takes time. If you focus on creating great content and being helpful, the followers will follow.

    Learn from the pros

    Everybody has a different approach to social media. Sometimes it is best to look at the true social media experts. Lee Odden shows how someone uses Twitter and Facebook to help others, increasing his social media influence.

    There are many great examples of people who understand how to interact with others and create powerful social media profiles. To find Twitter experts in your niche, check out sites such as WeFollow.

    Don’t overlook niche social media sites.

    People often think of Facebook or Twitter when they think about social media. There are hundreds (or even thousands?) of social media sites. There are many social media sites and networks that you can use for brand promotion. Even though a network may not be large, it doesn’t mean that it won’t impact your social media strategy. Targeted social media sites with niches can often attract more targeted traffic than larger sites.

    You can promote your site through smaller social networks if you are smart. One example is my web development posts that made it to the top of Dzone. This social media site is for web developers. The article was published on the Dzone front page, which resulted in many Delicious savings. It also made it onto the Delicious front page. Delicious users voted up the story to the Digg top page. By simply submitting my website to a niche news site with a great title, I was able to reach the Digg and Delicious homepages.

    Niche social news websites can be extremely powerful and easier to influence than larger sites. Below is a list of news sites sorted by category.

    Follow people in your niche on Twitter.

    A person who shares your interests is the ideal Twitter follower. These directories can help you find like-minded people to be followed on Twitter. There’s a good chance that many will also follow you back.

    After you have started following these people, it’s time to start interfacing with them. You can join discussions and retweet any comments they make that could benefit your community.

    This will help you increase your followers and give you more power within your niche. You will make great friends who will help promote your site and content. Remember always to give first and then ask later.

    Keep Your Head Up

    Many social media novices try to establish themselves quickly as experts. However, they don’t have any evidence to support this claim. You can search on Twitter for “social media specialists”. Many people have only a few followers. Why shouldn’t an expert have more followers?

    Nobody likes to be a “know-it-all,” as with everything in life. Be humble. Ask questions. Do not preach, but teach. You can let others do the hyping. They will if you are helpful and humble.

    Republish and update old posts.

    Update and Republish outdated content with new SEO ideas. This strategy is more effective than constantly generating new ideas and can draw new readers.

    These could be blog posts, landing pages, or offers on your site. You can use your social media strategy to build engagement and put your best foot forward.

    Schedule posts for evenings

    Weekends are not to be avoided. Schedule content launches for evenings to open up engagement opportunities that aren’t limited by time zones. This allows you to reach audiences all over the globe, even though it is 3 AM in your location.

    This allows global audiences to access fresh content even during work hours.

    Avoid scheduling content for evenings that requires engagement by your team. An Instagram photo inviting followers to comment below could be an example. You might not want to post about something at midnight because you can’t interact.

    Use hashtags to increase engagement.

    Hashtags can be like a key to increasing your online reach. Common tags such as #SocialMedia or #MarketingGoals can be great. But, you might also want to search for lesser-used ones, such as those from larger brands (such Adobe’s #CreateYourStory) and community-based (#BrightonMA). These are the tags that an active audience will be looking at.

    You don’t have to use existing hashtags. You can also create your hashtags as Buffer did above (#BufferLove). This will allow you to monitor what your customers and followers say about your product and media presence.

    Visuals are best.

    It’s fine not to invest in visual content if you’re just starting with social media. It’s a good idea to include images, videos, and graphics.

    You can edit and create content using various free services like CanvaGIFs can be a great way for younger audiences to interact. Don’t forget your smartphone! They can take beautiful photos that you can share on social media.

    These intermediate tips will help you if you have experience with social media and are ready to branch out. These tips will help you create consistent content across all your channels and increase clicks.

    While you don’t have to post every hour of the day, posting at least one or two times per day will keep your brand’s name fresh in your audience’s minds. You can also repost user-generated content, so don’t worry about creating many content ideas.

    Social Media Goals: Set Smart Social Media Goals

    It’s not hard to see that setting goals increase your social media success chances. Yet, it amazes me how many businesses don’t give much thought to their social media goals. It isn’t easy to measure the success of your social media marketing without goals. Clear goals will help you move your strategy forward and serve as a guideline for measuring your progress. Your social media goals and objectives should be clearly stated. These goals should align with your business goals.

    A goal must be precise, measurable and achievable. It can also be realistic in time. These are sometimes called SMART goals. The most effective and popular way to set goals for your business is through SMART goals.

    Do not spread yourself too thin.

    Even if you have limited resources, it is important to focus your social media efforts to yield the highest return on your investment. If your audience isn’t on that particular social network, it’s not worth spending time there. It would be best if you didn’t try to be everywhere simultaneously. Each additional platform your business is active on requires additional effort and time to engage with and create targeted content.

    Post When Your Audience is Online

    Many guides can be found online if you look for the best posting times. These recommendations can be used as a guide, but it is highly recommended that you test your timings to determine which days and times are most effective for your particular industry.

    Do more than “Do Social”. Be social!

    We all know people who only want you to comment on their content or tweet them. Be careful not to be one of these people. You shouldn’t be known for only being interested in what you want. It would be best if you were focusing on creating online relationships. If you don’t care enough about your community, people won’t show concern for it.
